These 8 Ingredients in Your Skincare Can Cause Acne

While buying skincare products we often read the ingredients to see what it consists of. With this amazing habit, it is important to enhance our awareness about the ingredients that are beneficial for the skin and the ones that are harmful to the skin. If you aren’t aware of the harmful ingredients that could spoil your skin, this article is for you.

To get acne free skin, ensure to read the ingredients list and avoid products that contain below mentioned ingredients:

1. Silicone

Silicone may not go well with those who have sensitive skin. If you have sensitive or acne prone skin, you might wish to avoid silicone in your skincare product as they usually cover the pores to give a smooth and even tone finish. Silicon has the ability to lock in oil and dirt on your skin which means, you cannot stay with silicon based products for a longer duration.

2. Benzaldehyde

Benzaldehyde as an ingredient in your skincare product has the potency to give a wonderful fragrance. But it doesn’t go well with all skin types as it can lead to irritation. Any skincare product can include hidden fragrances even if it is mentioned as fragrance-free. Consider using naturally extracted fragrances as they tend to smell much more fresh and natural.

3. Alcohol

There’s no secret behind alcohol consumption and its impact on our bodies. Any skincare product that contains alcohol significantly leads to dryness of the skin while triggering acne. To keep your skin nourished and hydrated, make sure the alcoholic content is way too less and it contains glycerine to neutralize the impact of alcohol.

4. Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is a potent chemical that helps eliminate acne-causing germs from the pores. However, using Benzoyl peroxide based products for prolonged duration can damage the skin while making them flaky, dry, and inflamed.

5. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is shown to offer multiple benefits for the skin, but this ingredient may not work on those who have sensitive or acne prone skin. The coconut oil texture is thick than any other oil and it may terribly clog the pores of the skin causing more breakouts than usual.

6. Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)

Those with acne-prone skin should think twice before using skincare products that include Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). You might have to cleanse your skin twice when you’ve been using products with SLS.

7. Almond oil

Although almond has a host of benefits for skin, hair, and overall health, you should be rethinking applying almond oil to your skin in any form. Similar to coconut oil, almond has a thicker consistency that could lead to clogging of pores. Applying almond oil in combination with other ingredients can work miraculously on those who have dry skin. But it’s a big no for those who have sensitive or combination skin as it could irritate the pH balance of the skin, causing acne.

8. Sodium chloride

Sodium chloride, also known as table salt is a thickening agent that can be used in beauty and skin care products. Due to its thicker consistency, it can lead to frequent breakouts while leading to aggravating your skin issues further.  You can create your personal skincare routine by incorporating natural and herbal ingredients that would not react with the pH level of the skin.
